Career in Financial Planning
Zach is a Private Wealth Advisor and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) Professional at AWM Capital.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the W.P. Carey School of Business with a B.S. Finance.
Zach is currently working towards satisfying the experience requirement to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ after passing the CFP ® Exam in early 2020.
During his NFL career and while serving as his team’s NFLPA Player Representative for 7 seasons he witnessed the financial exploitation of players and unethical motives of many “trusted” people that encompass an athlete’s inner circle.
He also learned his own expensive lesson of failing to understand the value of comprehensive wealth management from an independent fiduciary and not retaining the most qualified experts on his financial team.
Former Super Bowl Winning NFL Player
He played in the NFL for 8 seasons where he won a Super Bowl Championship with the Seattle Seahawks. His NFL career started with the Oakland Raiders as a 2nd round pick after a standout career with his hometown Sun Devils.
Following career-ending ankle reconstruction surgery, Zach returned to Arizona State to finish his undergraduate degree.
New Standard For Financial Advisers
Zach is passionate about using his personal experience, acquired knowledge, continuous education, and championship mindset to break the conditioning Wall Street has on professional athletes. He promotes a true fiduciary standard for all those that advise athletes.
Through Zach’s football career he has seen the need for anyone giving advice to put the athlete’s interest above all else and most importantly, the elimination of advisors that prey upon the information disadvantage & financial inexperience of young athletes.
Most athletes, Zach included, are not aware of the conflicts of interest embedded in the people giving the financial advice.
As any NFL player knows, the athlete is held to an incredibly high standard and if not performing, they are benched, or cut from the roster. This same principle should be applied to those that are responsible for managing an athlete’s financial structure.
Financial education is important, but athletes need better advisors if they plan to create and steward their generational wealth.
Personal Life
Zach and his wife Ashley are both Phoenix natives and reside in Paradise Valley, AZ. They have four energetic children, Remi (8), Kaydence (8), Paxton (6), and Ivy (1).
Zach loves coaching the kids’ soccer teams and seeing the teams channel his competitive spirit. He also enjoys lifting, golfing, cycling, hunting, snowboarding, Sun Devil Football, and watching NFL games.
